Yayasan Chow Kit was established in 2005 to help underprivileged children and one of its initiatives is Madhya’s Gift, which seeks to provide aid and funding for equitable access to medical solutions.

“Madhya’s Gift started three years ago, and has benefitted about 60 children and families. It’s essentially a whole system, starting from consultation, operation, and treatment, to after-care including prevention,” shares Dato’ Dr Hartini Zainuddin, co-founder of Yayasan Chow Kit.

Yayasan Chow Kit often receives appeals for financial support for critically ill children that can range from RM3,000 to RM1mil, with the average cost of treatment being RM40,000. The Madhya Gift programme was founded on this need as well as the frustration of getting underprivileged children access to healthcare, especially for those who aren’t insured, not a Malaysian citizen, or simply can’t afford to pay—sometimes all three.
